About Me
I earned my M.Ed. in Special Education and my PA teaching certificate in 2006 while student teaching for two years at Centennial School in Bethlehem, PA. I then accepted a permanent position as Lead Teacher / Career Development Teacher in Centennial's High School Program. In 2009 I earned my post-graduate certificate in Transition Services for Special Education, after which my role expanded to include serving as Centennial's transition coordinator. In addition to teaching career development classes and mentoring the incoming teachers, I also facilitated postsecondary transition planning for students age 14 - 21. This role included coordinating the Career Development Program, supervising the In-School Job Program, connecting students and families with outside agencies and adult service providers, consulting on IEP development for transition-age students, administering transition assessment, and analyzing and interpreting related data. I ran monthly staff development sessions to help teachers develop effective, compliant, and meaningful IEPs.
My passion to teach students real-world skills and prepare them for 21st-century life after high school was recognized in 2017 when I was one of 100 educators across the state of PA selected as a Keystone Technology Innovator and awarded the KTI STAR.
After 15 years of classroom experience in Emotional Support, my adventure now continues outside of the classroom as part of Work-Based Learning within Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21. This specialized service provides meaningful work and training experiences for students in the community. These authentic experiences beautifully align with my passion for and our mission of helping every child learn the soft skills essential for their post-secondary success.
